Hello lovely people. Today’s inspiration is strictly internal. I’m talking about mental health. We are all stressed to some level because we are certainly not living a life we are accustomed to, as it is a very uncertain time.
If you are in the situation to be home, sheltering in place, or participating in social distancing perhaps this is an opportune time to refresh and recharge. Maybe 👍🏾. Maybe not 👎🏾.
As we know, not everyone is will have the luxury to be home resting, working on long lost home projects or binge-watching Netflix 😎. We probably have literally hundreds of thousands who must leave their homes every day. For those who are considered essential personnel…our nurses, doctors, police officers, firefighters, mail delivery, custodial workers, truck drivers, sanitation engineers, food delivery workers, even some school personnel we thank you for your sacrifice and dedication to your profession. I know that many of you do not have what you need to adequately protect yourselves- that in itself is highly stressful. I am not a medical professional; however, I urge you to consider temporarily decompressing the moment the opportunity presents itself. Please take of your mental as well as physical self the best way you are able to, considering the circumstances.
Then there are others thinking about how you and your family will eat- especially if you have been laid off or furloughed. Thinking about if your small business will survive once things return to normal. Thinking about how you will pay the mortgage, car note, or utilities. Not to mention all the newly widowed, the caretakers or families now without a provider or loved one who has died from this virus.
Here are some ideas to help you temporarily decompress and give your mind an opportunity to escape for a minute:
– read that book you’ve been meaning to read
– choose a book that sparks your interest and finish it
– unplug from any news source for a while to refresh and refocus your mind on something positive
– consider listening to an audiobook or podcast
– open your window and take a few deep breaths a few times a day
– write a few personal goals that are long term (personal, professional, spiritual, social) then make a flexible plan on how you can accomplish it
– meditate, stretch or do yoga
– listen to relaxing sounds (try the calm app, try googling sound therapy, or relaxing sounds on YouTube)
Yes. I said rest. Some of you were running nonstop before this virus struck. If this is you, and you now have an opportunity to get some rest- do that. However, when you are rested don’t forget this can be a great time to do the things you didn’t have time to do previously. Do whatever you need to do to be ok and get through this challenging time!
At the end of the day take care of your mind. If all you can think of right now is today, then do that✌🏾🧘🏾♀️. Don’t beat yourself up because you are comparing your mental state and journey to others. Wherever you are, whatever your situation, do what is right for you, but do something to decompress and give your mind a rest. Until tomorrow…..
