19 April – Day Nineteen 30 Days of Inspiration

The Power of a Smile

Smiling is contagious.

I mean, when you walk into a room with a bright smile there is a certain type of energy that accompanies it.  Those around you may not only feel at ease but they will feel a wave of confidence from you.

This has been my experience.

Sometimes when I’m nervous I smile.  When I’m kind of anxious about something, I may crack a little smile.  Smiling generally makes me feel better. I also generally feel most beautiful when I smile, and I feel like I look most youthful💆🏾‍♀️. Even with full face makeup, my look is complete when I have a pleasant smile.

Now wait.  There is a difference between a Cheshire cat smile and an authentic one.  I’m talking about the latter.

A smile that bubbles up from your soul.

According to PsychologyToday.com, smiling activates the release of neuropeptides that work toward fighting off stress.  Additionally, the article explains that dopamine, endorphins, and serotonin all assist the body as a natural pain reliever, antidepressant/mood lifter and helps the body lower the heart rate and blood pressure.  Whew!  Sign my up.

Smiling also allows others to see that you are approachable.  Many of our relationships, be it romantic, friendship/casual, business, educational or familial all benefit from the power of OUR SMILE.

Improving my mood and reducing my stress is a good enough reason for me to smile.   I hope you are able to find a reason that’s close to your heart to smile today too!

Until tomorrow…
