Self-Care Beyond TikTok and Instagram Videos
The I am healthy, I am wealthy challenge. I won’t lie I had to look it up at first to see what this was all about. Not too long ago it was everywhere, and I think just about everybody’s heard about it by now. It was all over TikTok and Instagram a few weeks ago.
There were cute, short videos of people singing the catchy chorus. I did not know who this young lady was at first, but the chorus lyrics were powerful, and people were drawn to it – and with good reason.
The song is called I Am by Yung Baby Tate ft. Flo Millie Here are the chorus lyrics:
“I am healthy, I am wealthy I am rich, I am that b**ch I am gonna go get that bag And I am not gonna take your s**t I am protected, well respected I’m a queen, I’m a dream I do what I wanna do And I’m who I wanna be ‘Cause I am me”
Awesome. Empowerment. Affirmations.
I love it. I’m all for it and I believe in it wholeheartedly. Yet, I’m scared that it will become a trend, meme, or video that fizzles out with the next best catchy thing.
But it shouldn’t be a trend.
Nope. Self-care and affirmations should not be a trend or part of a social phase. We’ve got to make it a nonnegotiable part of our lives. Our lives really do depend on it.
Affirmations work best when they are done on the daily giving us a gentle reminder of who we are, what we can accomplish, and what we can do in the future. A reminder of what you already know and what you need to be reminded of.
Why does manifesting and making affirmations work?
First, what is manifesting? I read an article written by Kimberly Zapata in Oprah Magazine that I will link here that explains it perfectly. She states that manifesting is bringing something tangible into your life through attraction and belief. So, in essence manifesting is really about attracting whatever you are aligned with.
It is such a simple concept, yet, when we consider how powerful the subconscious is and how there is so much more going on in our thought-action-process-cycle it can be overwhelming or feel out of reach.
In order to manifest something, we should focus on what we want to attract into our lives – easier said than done I know. According to the Law of Attraction- a person uses the power of the mind to translate whatever is in their thoughts and materialize them into reality. Simply put – whatever you constantly think about you will bring about.
Seriously Consider Your Energy
The level you give out is what you will attract and receive. For example, if you are putting out effort and energy at a level 3, can you really expect to receive something back at a level 10? Think about that, you will have to put in some work. Work on your energy and intention. Whew! I know. It gets deep, but it’s totally worth it. Raise your vibe people!
It is important to note there is not a specific timeframe for your thoughts, ideas and/or desires to manifest – however without the proper mindset along with the subconscious and conscious mind agreeing.
Affirmations can be done any time of day and anywhere. I personally like to do them in the morning to help me start my day off in the right mindset, but at any point when I need the reminder is a great time to belt one out.
Important to remember…
Remember self-care is also more than fancy spa baths, facials and luxury creams. Yes, there is a place of all of these WONDERFUL things but the main thing to focus on when trying to encompass self-care in your life is your mental health. Is your mental health status healthy? Is your mind functionally optimally? Is there something you can be doing to reduce the extra stress and burdens you are carrying around that inadvertently prevents you from being your best self. All the outside glamour (fancy clothes, cars, makeup, jobs, etc.,) in the world will not stop the internal chaos so start on the inside.
-Once your mental state is improved, the physical state will follow. It’s the natural order of things. Heal the mind and the body will comply.
-Don’t allow self-care and affirmations to be a trend for you. Bring it in as part of your lifestyle, something you truly need to survive and be your best self.
Thank you Yung Baby Tate for creatively bringing the concept of affirmations back to the spotlight and introducing it to so many young people.
